Interview with Dr. Shahin Dashtgard

Welcome to another Geo-Insider interview on sedimentology!

Introduction

We want to thank sincerely Dr. Shahin Dashtgard for sharing his time and knowledge of geoscience with us!

Dr. Dashtgard received his B.Sc. from the University of Alberta in 1998 and his PhD from the same institution in 2006. Between degrees, he spent 4 years working as a petroleum geologist, and he is employed presently as an Earth Sciences Professor at Simon Fraser University, Canada (2007-present). Dr. Dashtgard has authored or co-authored over 75 publications focusing mainly on shallow-marine environments and sedimentary strata. He received the James Lee Wilson Award in 2012 from the SEPM (Society for Sedimentary Geology), the Link Award from the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists in 2013, and the W.W. Hutchison Medal from the Geological Association of Canada in 2020. His current research focuses on resolving depositional cyclicity and evolution of convergent-margin basins (CMBs) and evaluating fluvio-tidal strata through time and space
